St. John Fall 2011 – the official ad!

10/June/2011 • ADD COMMENT • Claudia

Here is your first official look at Kate Winslet’s new campaign for St. John. Captured by Craig McDean on location in April at an old cinema in Jersey City, the British actress looks right at home as the face of the label’s A/W 2011 campaign. Sultry and stunning, she shows off her amazing bod in a figure-hugging black knit dress while she drapes herself across the theatre stage.

“They want to keep it looking like me and not have it look like me pretending to be a model wearing these clothes,” said Winslet of the concept. “I’m obviously not a model. I’m not the size of a model. I don’t have the face of a model or the shape of a model.”

Soderbergh’s Contagion Contaminates 2011 in 3D

16/May/2010 • ADD COMMENT • Samantha

Warner Bros. Pictures has announced a slew of movies they will be readying for release in 2011, setting tentative release dates between April and December of next year.

The biggest announcement among them is that Steven Soderbergh will be releasing his virus thriller Contagion, starring Matt Damon, Kate Winslet, Jude Law, Gwyneth Paltrow and Marion Cotillard in 3D on October 21, 2011. Having spoken with Soderbergh about 3D this time last year, he told ComingSoon.net how he had been suitably impressed when he was given an early sneak peek at James Cameron’s Avatar, so it isn’t too big a surprise that he has decided to give it a go with his next big movie.

Furthermore, New Line has picked August 26, 2011 for the release of Final Destination 5, the fifth installment of their venerable horror franchise, following the success of the fourth movie in 3D. No word yet on a director, cast or whether they will continue in the 3D realm.

Speaking of 3D, the sequel to one of the movies that started the craze Journey to the Center of the Earth 2 (once known as “Mysterious Travels”) will open on September 23, 2011. No word on whether Mark Waters has signed the dotted line to direct as has been rumored–original director Eric Brevig will be finishing up Yogi Bear–though that should be announced soon. Brendan Fraser and Josh Hutcherson are rumored to be returning to the sequel.

New Year’s Eve, New Line’s follow-up to their hit comedy Valentine’s Day will open on December 9, 2011, taking full advantage of the holiday business leading up to New Year’s Eve proper.

Catherine (Twilight) Hardwicke’s Red Riding Hood starring Amanda Seyfried has been scheduled for April 22, while Todd Lincoln’s thriller The Apparition starring Ashley Greene and Sebastian Stan will be released on September 9, 2011.

Lastly, Warner Bros. has set a August 12, 2011 release date for Alcon Entertainment’s true life comedy Late Bloomer, based on Ken Baker’s novel “Man Made: A Memoir” about a man who experiences his entire puberty in three weeks at the age of 27. It’s being redone as a comedy.

Not to be outshone by the competition, 20th Century Fox has also placed a few movies for late next year including Jonah Hill’s comedy The Sitter on July 15, 2011 and the adaptation of the novel We Bought a Zoo, rumored to be directed by Cameron Crowe, on December 23, 2011.

You’ll be able to read further developments on all these projects as they go into production right up until release right here on ComingSoon.net!

Kim Kardashian, Beyonce and Kate Winslet Voted Best Body Shapes

23/April/2010 • ADD COMMENT • Samantha

The threesome beat off competition from the likes of Jennifer Lopez, Jessica Simpson and Kelly Brook in the poll that saw women voting for their favourite celebrity shapes.

Kate Winslet was a surprise entry into the line-up which saw reality star Kim Kardashian take the crown.

The poll was conducted by Offers Supermarket to celebrate the launch of the new part of their site ‘Fashion Inspiration’.

Research found that 58% of women desire an hourglass figure because it is ‘sexy’ and ‘womanly’.

The athletic ‘up and down’ body shape was found as being the least desirable and a mere 13% claimed that they didn’t feel influenced by celebrity’s appearances.

Even so, it was American socialite Kim that most females want to look like, followed by singing-sensation Beyonce. British rose Kate Winslet polled third followed by stunning Scarlett Johansson who pipped Jennifer Lopez to fourth place.

Not far behind J-Lo was busty Jessica Simpson who beat famously curvy Brit Kelly Brook who came next.

Eve Atkins, founder of the site, said: ‘The new section on our site is there to inspire women, and show them that there is a variety of clothing available for every body shape and fashion taste.’

‘Clothes are now designed to hide sins and show off assets; this is what ‘Fashion Inspiration’ is going to represent.’

The full top ten is listed below.

1. Kim Kardashian

2. Beyonce

3. Kate Winslet

4. Scarlett Johansson

5. Jennifer Lopez

6. Jessica Simpson

7. Kelly Brook

8. Nigella Lawson

9. Jennifer Hudson

10. Myleene Klass

Kate Winslet Speaks Out Against Foie Gras In New Video

15/April/2010 • ADD COMMENT (1) • Samantha

LONDON — Oscar-winning actress Kate Winslet threw her weight Wednesday behind a campaign against foie gras, narrating a video which she said shows the “terrifying and painful” way the food is produced.

Winslet, winner of the 2009 best actress Academy Award for “The Reader”, put her voice to the footage for campaign group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA).

The video — which PETA said was filmed undercover on foie gras farms — shows birds confined to cramped cages and apparently being force-fed by having tubes placed down their throats.

The foodstuff is normally made by force-feeding ducks and geese to enlarge their livers.

“Foie gras is sold as an expensive ‘delicacy’ in some restaurants and shops, but no one pays a higher price for foie gras than the ducks and geese who are abused and killed to make it,” she said.

“This is a terrifying and painful process for the birds, who have no semblance of a normal life and know that several times a day a tube will be rammed down their throats,” added the 34-year-old.

She ended the video with an appeal to boycott the food: “Please join us in helping ducks and geese by pledging never to eat foie gras.”

PETA said the video would be sent to exclusive department stores around the world in a bid to stop them selling the product.

Winslet is the latest British star to speak out against foie gras. Actor and former 007 Roger Moore paid for and starred in a poster campaign outside a top London shop in November against the food.

The bus stop poster outside the upmarket department store Selfridges, on the British capital’s Oxford Street, urged shoppers to think twice about buying the delicacy. The ad was also for PETA.

Kate Winslet’s Hamster Horror

01/March/2010 • ADD COMMENT • Samantha

Kate Winslet was traumatised when her pet hamster ate its babies.

The Oscar-winning actress has revealed how she was left suffering from repetitive nightmares as a child after her family refused to listen to veterinary advice and her furry pet killed its offspring.

She explained to Empire magazine: “When I was a kid, one of our hamsters suddenly gave birth – we didn’t even know she was pregnant. We phoned the pet shop and they said, ‘Take the babies away – hamsters get very frightened after they’ve given birth and you don’t want her to eat the babies.’

“We didn’t listen and that’s exactly what happened. This obviously affected me badly as I had a recurring dream about hamsters gobbling up their babies until I was about 15.”

Kate is not the only Hollywood beauty to suffer from odd premonitions at bedtime.

The O.C. actress Rachel Bilson once wet herself after dreaming she was a performing hippopotamus.

She said: “When I was nine years old, I dreamt I was a hippo in a ballerina skirt, like the one in ‘Fantasia’. It got worse, because I had to pee in my dream and when I woke up I’d wet my bed. That’s pretty embarrassing, right?”

Kate Works Free To Tell a Mother’s Tale

25/January/2010 • ADD COMMENT (1) • Samantha

Who says Hollywood stars do nothing for free? Academy award winning actress Kate Winslet waived her fee to narrate a forthcoming docu-drama called ‘The Sunshine Boy’ after being reduced to tears by the film, reported Daily Express online.

Director Fridrik Thor Fridriksson had sent footage of the movie, about the struggle of an Icelandic mother to raise her autistic son, to the 34-year-old actress.

The ‘Titanic’ star watched the film with her nine-year-old daughter Mia and by the end, she was in tears.

“Then Mia said to her, ‘Mummy we are so lucky we can talk to each other’. It broke Kate’s heart and she immediately called the director and told him that she would do the job for free,” said a source close to the actress.

The actress’ good deed appears to have paid off. The film is tipped for success at the Toronto Film Festival later this year.

Winslet, who picked up an Academy Award for Best Actress for her role in ‘The Reader’ and two Golden Globes for her performances in ‘The Reader’ and ‘Revolutionary Road’ respectively in 2009, has since kept away from the spotlight.

“I was in hiding a little bit, just doing family stuff and very little work,” the actress had said in a recent interview.
